My Favorite Sweet Releaf Ingredients

Dec 15, 2022 | How It's Made

For years now I’ve been enjoying the benefits of Sweet Releaf topicals, in particular the COMFORT and COMFORT+ body butters. Applying them for pain, as so many of us have, almost always results in hours and sometimes a full day (or night) of blessed relief. For that we can thank THC and CBD which are the key cannabis ingredients in the products. As described in previous blogs, these cannabinoids act directly on our endocannabinoid system to reduce inflammation and block pain signals to the brain while restoring balance to the body.

However, during Fall and Winter cold spells when indoor heat tends to dry out our skin, I am reminded just how luscious the other ingredients like shea butter, kokum butter and cocoa butter feel when applied and it makes me smile! These are the main carrier ingredients in our COMFORT body butters! Shea butter “works as an emollient that softens and hydrates skin. Because it contains several types of fatty acids — including lineoleic, oleic, palmitic and stearic acids — that improve the skin’s natural barrier-shea butter also protects skin from damage from the environment like pollutants.” (*Skin Science, What is shea butter? 5 Skin benefits worth knowing” Julia Malacoff, 8/18/ 2020). In addition shea has both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

For those who aren’t familiar with kokum butter, it is made from the seeds of a fruit called kokum. It is similar to shea butter and cocoa butter but better. It’s packed with essential fatty acids that are said to help slow down aging. The rich nourishing properties of kokum butter moisturize, soften, and protect dry skin.

“Kokum butter contains a wealth of skin-fortifying constituents, such as vitamin E and the key polyunsaturated fats of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids. These vital compounds infuse hydration to parched regions, repair damaged tissues and lock in moisture content to form an effective outer barrier and protect deeper layers of skin”.

In addition to cannabinoids and natural butters, I have to celebrate the essential oils found in Sweet Releaf products, not just because they smell heavenly, but because they contain anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-bacterial properties as well. Essential oils in these butters include cinnamon, sweet orange, frankincense, clove, and white camphor. I like to breathe in their aromas every time I apply COMFORT body butters. I hope you will find as much pleasure using these products as I do. And together we’ll all keep our skin happy and moisturized this Winter!

Yours in health and wellness, Didi
